The Flickr Ambigram Challenge

First of all I'd like to note I'm back home and finally able to post after a three week long hiatus. I didn't spend my time without ambigrams altogether though. During my vacation I made some sketches for the newest ambigram challenge.

Just before I left, the first edition of a new contest was announced: the Flickr ambigram Challenge (FAC). Initiated in the Flickr Ambigram group, this challenge was created to fill in the gap left by the NAC. Because of the release of the 6th Harry Potter movie, the theme for this month is 'Magic'. I've just finished my first entry, which is a perceptual shift (a.k.a. oscillation) ambigram, meaning that it can be read as two different words without having to change the orientation of the image.

Witches – Wizards Witches – Wizards, GIMP, July 2009

I created this ambigram while reading Terry Pratchett's 'Equal Rites', which deals with with the differences between witches and wizards. The ambigram makes a nice metaphor of how witchcraft and wizardry are only two different ways of looking at magic. This is the first Oscillation I've made so far and I'm quite happy with it. Especially with this type of ambigram it's all about choosing the right words to begin with.
More entries for the FAC coming soon.

  1. It took me a while to spot wizards but once I did it was very clear. Congrats on this superb first attempt.
